Exploring the Digital Landscape: A Week with Grey Hair Dave

This podcast episode delves into the recent developments surrounding Elon Musk's SpaceX, which has transitioned to a publicly traded entity, thereby enabling individuals to acquire shares in the company. I reflect on my experiences with various technological tools, particularly the innovative video creation software, Hey Jen, which has proven to be an intriguing asset in my creative endeavors. During our discourse, I also address my personal reflections on the sweltering climate and my intention to undertake travels that facilitate a respite from the heat. Furthermore, we discuss the potential implications of an impending agreement between the United States and Iran, which may herald a reduction in oil prices, thereby impacting the economic landscape. As we navigate these multifaceted topics, I invite listeners to engage with me and share their thoughts on the subjects explored in this episode. In the current episode, Grey Hair Dave provides an insightful examination of various themes, interweaving personal anecdotes with reflections on technology and current affairs. The discourse begins with Dave's experiences in video editing, particularly his foray into utilizing Final Cut Pro and an AI program named 'Hey Jen'. He shares his journey of learning and adapting to new technologies, emphasizing the importance of staying current in an age where digital tools can significantly enhance one's creative output. This exploration serves as a crucial reminder of the necessity for individuals to embrace technological advancements, as they can facilitate more profound storytelling and content creation. Transitioning from the technical realm, Dave offers listeners a glimpse into his personal life, discussing his plans to travel and visit family, as well as commenting on the current climatic conditions in his locale. This personal narrative adds a layer of relatability, allowing the audience to connect with the host on a more intimate level. Furthermore, the podcast touches on significant developments in the financial sector, particularly the recent IPO of SpaceX, elucidating its implications for investors and the market at large. Welcome to five Minutes with Grey Hair Dave.
Speaker AHe has grey hair and he has a grey beard and he also wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.
Speaker AOh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking.
Speaker ANow, tariff free.
Speaker AHere is Grey Hair Dave.
Speaker BWell, well, well, folks.
Speaker BThat was elevenlabs IO spelled E L E V E N L A B S IO.
Speaker BYes, I am an affiliate there at 11 Labs IO.
Speaker BSo if you go there, use the product, pay for it, I get a commission off that.
Speaker BThat helps to phrase some of the costs here.
Speaker BSo just wanted you to know that.
Speaker BHow are you doing?
Speaker BI'm doing great.
Speaker BI hope you are too.
Speaker BSo hold on a second.
Speaker BDrink time.
Speaker BSo we have been, and I say we, I mean me, I've been goofing around with some stuff this week online like with hey Jen which just created a cool video for me.
Speaker BI've also been playing around with Final Cut Pro more, trying to get more, I don't want to say comfortable with it, but I'm learning some more tricks when it comes to that, that program.
Speaker BNow you all know that I am an Apple person.
Speaker BI love my Macs, I love my iPhone, my iPad, I love all that stuff.
Speaker BAnd I don't want one ecosystem, so if I do something on one, it goes to the other, which is the way it's supposed to be.
Speaker BOne of the great advantages of, of doing that with, especially now that I'm doing video with every podcast.
Speaker BAnd yes folks, I am recording video at the same time as I'm doing this right now.
Speaker BYou're looking.
Speaker BIf you're watching the video, go over to YouTube, go to gray Hair Dave, the Gray Hair day page and you'll see the video.
Speaker BBut this was taking, taken, I'm sorry, over in Treasure island in, let's see, the Gulf coast of Florida, really.
Speaker BIt's, it's St. Pete beach, but this is at a restaurant right by the bay and which goes out into the Gulf of Mexico and it's, there's a little bay in between which it's a really great place called John's Pass Roundabout.
Speaker BLong winded way of getting there to Johns Pass.
Speaker BAnd I think the place over there is fantastic.
Speaker BI like it there a lot.
Speaker BI'm due to go back soon just for medicinal purposes.
Speaker BYou know, go to the sea, smell some air, get, get, get away from everything here.
Speaker BBut you know, it's, it's a good time to go right now because spring breaks are over so it won't be quite as crowded.
Speaker BSummer's begun here for, you know, for schools so there's no school right now, but that'll be all right too.
Speaker BBut I'm thinking about that.
Speaker BBut you know, I was talking to my brother there today.
Speaker BI'm also thinking about making a trip back up to Michigan again, seeing some folks, spending some time with family.
Speaker BBut we'll see what happens there too.
Speaker BBut that's what's happening on the personal front, besides the fact I, I, I hate to tell you this, it's been hot here.
Speaker BNot just warm, it's been hot at the average.
Speaker BFeels like temperatures have been in the hundreds, low hundreds, but 100 is a hundred.
Speaker BAnd when there's no breeze, man, I tell you, that makes, just makes it deadly almost up there.
Speaker BAnd last week when I was working, I forgot to wear shorts because our costume has shorts, a short option option.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BAnd I have been not afraid to show my legs, but you know, because of all the surgery and everything else my doctors had me in and compression socks when I work.
Speaker BBut with all this heat, it doesn't help when I, and I, you know, I'm not going to be one of them people who wears long socks, long black socks with my costume.
Speaker BWould it look okay?
Speaker BProbably.
Speaker BBut that's defeating the purpose of getting air in my legs and up, you know, and ventilation everywhere it needs to go.
Speaker BIt's so I'm going to go to a shorter sock and I still have to wear the brace.
Speaker BAnd yeah, I may get a weird tan, but that's the way it works here in, in the land of the sun.
Speaker BSo today we're changing subjects.
Speaker BNow today I was playing around with a program called hey Jen.
Speaker BHey Jen will make videos for you.
Speaker BAnd all you have to do is basically give it some parameters, give it a, you know, a photo or a video option that it can look at of you and see what it put out it comes out with.
Speaker BNow, I'm still on the free version because I use a free version of everything as long as I can.
Speaker BAnd it, I told it that, told it who I am.
Speaker BI also uploaded one of the images that Chat GPT had made of me.
Speaker BUnfortunately, it's the one that has a Sea World logo on it.
Speaker BBut that's my issue.
Speaker BI don't, I was just using that as the example.
Speaker BI said, you know, my name is Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker BI, I, I am a podcaster, a podcast editor, video editor, audio editor.
Speaker BI own a company called Gray Hair Productions.
Speaker BOne of our divisions works on helping 55 plus communities get the word, you know, get their lives out in the public or recorded Also gives them the option for, you know, video or if they want to do a podcast, if they want to do a legacy video or audio, all those types of things, explainer videos, whatever.
Speaker BThey want to do that.
Speaker BWe do that.
Speaker BAnd that's part of our product.
Speaker BAnd then I hit enter.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker BI also put the name of it in there, too.
Speaker BAnd it took about, oh, I don't know, maybe four minutes to come up with this video Grant.
Speaker BI think it's about 30 seconds long, but it's pretty cool.
Speaker BIf you're watching the video, I'm going to add it in at, at the end as a bonus if I can.
Speaker BIt's now to get everything out of there.
Speaker BI need to, of course, sign up for monthly, a monthly or yearly subscription.
Speaker BAnd if I'm not willing to, to subscribe to.
Speaker BIf I'm not willing to subscribe to Claude Cowork.
Speaker BWhy would I subscribe to this when it's not really something I'm going to use?
Speaker BSo we'll see what happens if I've got.
Speaker BBecause I do have the copy of the video.
Speaker BSo I'll put it out there just so you know.
Speaker BBut, you know, there's.
Speaker BThere's been a lot happening in the world this week that we need to talk about, too.
Speaker BElon Musk took SpaceX public this week, which means you can buy shares or stocks in that company, which includes everything from SpaceX to X, you know, Twitter.
Speaker BI think it's all under one big group, and that includes Tesla.
Speaker BI mean, I think it's all his companies in one or something.
Speaker BI haven't paid a whole lot of attention.
Speaker BAll I know is that it started at the opening ipo, which is initial public offering.
Speaker BI think that's what it's for.
Speaker BIt's.
Speaker BIt's is.
Speaker BIt started at $132 a share, which is a lot.
Speaker BAnd now I, when I heard yesterday, it's up at $172 or $73 a share, and it has made him.
Speaker BIt is the first IPO to be.
Speaker BTo make him.
Speaker BIt made.
Speaker BLet's put this way, it made Elon Musk a trillionaire overnight almost.
Speaker BAnd he was already richer than all of us.
Speaker BI mean, so, I mean, what the.
Speaker BBut that's in my mind.
Speaker BI mean, a friend of mine, she went ahead and bought one stock or one share.
Speaker BIf I had $170 that I didn't have anything to do with right now, I'd probably buy a share, too.
Speaker BBut, you know, to do it properly, you Got to buy more than one share and I, I don't have the money for that right now.
Speaker BAnd I don't, I don't, I don't gamble that way anymore.
Speaker BI don't gamble anymore.
Speaker BI mean, I used to go to Vegas once in a while and, and that kind of thing, but I don't even do that anymore.
Speaker BJust don't.
Speaker BNo desire anymore.
Speaker BIt doesn't bother me that I don't.
Speaker BI like to gamble for fun.
Speaker BI go with a certain amount of money.
Speaker BI was okay to lose and if I lost it, fine.
Speaker BIf I came back even I'm fine, I come back ahead.
Speaker BHey, you know, great day in the neighborhood.
Speaker BBut anyway, that's what's going on there.
Speaker BAlso.
Speaker BThere's a.
Speaker BSupposedly a deal for the strait or with Iran and the US for something, for some kind of a ceasefire and a.
Speaker BWhatever.
Speaker BThere's some kind of an agreement coming.
Speaker BAnd so they are going to start opening up to straight to Hormuz, which means that we might start getting cheaper oil here and cheaper gas prices because our gas prices are.
Speaker BThey've been right around $4, sometimes a couple cents more, sometimes a little bit less, but hovering right around $4 a gallon.
Speaker BI'm lucky.
Speaker BI live close enough that I can go for three or four weeks without having to buy gas.
Speaker BI got a small car.
Speaker BIt's not small small.
Speaker BI mean, it's.
Speaker BBut it's great on gas mileage.
Speaker BI'm getting 40 miles to the gallon when I go back and forth to work.
Speaker BHolds 10 gallons.
Speaker BSo, you know, I was paying 40 bucks to fill up my, my tank and I like to not let it get below half when the prices are this high.
Speaker BYeah, I'm spending the same amount of money each time, but for the amount of miles I drive a week, which is, God, probably it's way, way under a hundred.
Speaker BI don't drive 100 miles a week because I'm so close to work.
Speaker BSo there's that.
Speaker BAnd that's what's going on this week.
Speaker BI have decided I am going to go ahead and sign up for Claude code just to get going on that.
Speaker BTo help it with me, I've already made some, some templates for emails and I'm starting to make these videos, so I'm into those, but I'm not there yet.
Speaker BI've got to edit them and get them on the website and then phone calls start and appointments start.
Speaker BSo wish me well.
Speaker BPlease wish me luck.
Speaker BIf you've got any comments or concerns about what I'm going to be doing.
Speaker BPlease feel free to go to five Minutes with Gray Haired Dave and leave me a message.
Speaker BGo to the Contact Me page.
Speaker BLeave me an email.
Speaker BGo to the little microphone on the bottom right hand corner.
Speaker BClick on it.
Speaker BYou have to leave me an email address either way and leave me your comments on what you think about this project I'm going to do.
Speaker BAm I taking too long?
Speaker BYeah, I'm taking too long.
Speaker BOkay, get off my back because no one's on my back harder than I am.
Speaker BBut, you know, let's.
Speaker BI want your opinions on it.
Speaker BIf you think it's a good idea, let me know.
Speaker BIf you think it's a terrible idea, let me know.
Speaker BBecause I want to know.
Speaker BI want opinions.
Speaker BSo please, please go to five Minutes with Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker BLeave me a message.
Speaker BWhat else?
Speaker BBecause I was going, I was going to talk about today.
Speaker BWell, probably not much because we're already at about 13 minutes.

Speaker BI'm willing to help out for a certain amount of time for free.
Speaker BAnd if you want to continue on with me, then there'll be a fee.
Speaker BBut the main thing I want to do is get people interested in starting a podcast because everybody out there has something they know that somebody else may not.
Speaker BOr they, they, they love golf, they love boating, they, they love cooking.
Speaker BThey want to talk about it, they want to talk about their recipes.
Speaker BWe can do it on audio or audio video, whichever you want to do.
Speaker BI can help you with all that.
Speaker BAlso, you know, it's a great way to get things out that you want to talk about.
Speaker BI mean, look at me.
Speaker BFive Minutes with Gray Hair Dave has no basic description except just Dave being Dave.
Speaker BBut yet it started out as reviewing music when I grew up to work, you know, the problems with my health, my foot.
Speaker BTo all these AI things that I'm into.
Speaker BAnd yours can evolve whatever way you want it to.
Speaker BAlso, it doesn't have to be.
Speaker BI have to follow this.
Speaker BYou know, it can be whatever you want it to be.
Speaker BSo if you're interested, get ahold of me at Gray Hair Productions dot com.
Speaker BAlso, folks, if.
Speaker BIf you know somebody who doesn't know what a podcast Is doesn't know where to find them, doesn't have a clue about what they are, what they do.
Speaker BShow them for me.
Speaker BGrab them, grab them by their, their hand and grab their phone and have them press on the podcast tab or download the podcast app if they are on an Android.
Speaker BBecause I don't know if Android phones come with a podcast app on them.
Speaker BMight be something for me to look up, huh?
Speaker BBut if you're on the video I'm going to have, you'll see, it'll be on there.
Speaker BAbout podcast apps, also, there will be.
Speaker BI just lost it, folks.
Speaker BI'm sorry.
Speaker BThe genres, the different kinds of genres.
Speaker BSee, you don't have to be perfect in these things.
Speaker BAnd I'm not editing that last little bit out, but there's all kinds of different genres out there, everything from politics to country music.
Speaker BThere's a guy out there has a huge following and all they talk about is model trains.
Speaker BHe's got a huge following.
Speaker BThere's a guy out there who is, who talks about horses.
Speaker BHuge following.
Speaker BSo you could do whatever you want to do, be whatever you want to be.
Speaker BSo, so do that for me.
Speaker BSo also, and, and I want you to know this because I mean this sincerely.
Speaker BI look at my podcast numbers daily.
Speaker BI probably shouldn't.
Speaker BAnd sometimes they get either big download, sometimes they're not.
Speaker BAnd word of mouth is a great way to get your word, you know, your podcast out there and know, because it's all been pretty organic for me.
Speaker BThey are the 200th one that was not.
Speaker BBut it's been pretty organic for me and I've done okay and I'm very happy with, with my downloads.
Speaker BDon't get me wrong, but if you know somebody out there who's looking for a new podcast to try, please tell them about me.
Speaker BTell them about five minutes of gray hair.
Speaker BDave, the guide has all kinds of different things to talk about, but you might enjoy it and get some fun out of it.
Speaker BAnd also the last thing I always say here, if you're out and about and you see somebody who may not be having a good day, looks like they're a little sad.
Speaker BSmile, wave, say hi.
Speaker BYou're going to make their day a little bit easier, which will make your day a little bit easier.
Speaker BSo for me, smiling back at you, you all have a great week.
Speaker BEnjoy your, your family, enjoy your work, enjoy what you do.
Speaker BIf you're not enjoying it, you're not doing it right.
Speaker BOr if you're not enjoying it, it may be time to think about something.
Speaker BElse, but also if you're not enjoying it.
Speaker BBut it's a means to an end, which means, like, it's a stepping stone.
Speaker BKeep the faith, brothers and sisters.
Speaker BKeep the faith.
Speaker BSo on behalf of me, Gray Hair Dave here in Gray Hair Central and Gray Hair Productions.
Speaker BYou'll have a great week.
