Unveiling the Power of the Zoom P4 Next for Aspiring Podcasters
This podcast episode elucidates the transformative capabilities of the new Zoom P4 Next audio interface, which I have recently integrated into my recording setup. I expound upon its multifarious features, including voice enhancement, noise reduction, and the ability to record multiple inputs simultaneously. Furthermore, I reflect on the implications of artificial intelligence in our lives, particularly its potential to supplant human interaction among younger generations. As I traverse through my experiences with AI, I invite listeners to contemplate the balance between technological advancement and the irreplaceable value of personal connections. This discourse ultimately seeks to provoke thoughtful consideration regarding the intersection of technology and human relationships in our contemporary society. Opening with an earnest welcome, Grey Hair Dave resumes his podcast after a brief interlude, sharing his renewed enthusiasm for the craft. He unveils his latest acquisition, the Zoom P4 next audio interface, a device he believes will significantly enhance his podcasting capabilities. This segment is characterized by detailed descriptions of the interface's impressive features, such as its ability to modulate voice quality and reduce background noise, thus promising a more professional auditory experience for listeners. Grey Hair Dave's excitement is palpable as he discusses the practical implications of this technology, and he provides insights into how it can streamline the recording process for multiple guests, thereby enriching the overall podcast experience. The narrative then shifts to a more introspective examination of the role of artificial intelligence in shaping human relationships, particularly among younger generations. Grey Hair Dave articulates his apprehension regarding the substitution of authentic human interaction with AI-generated companionship. He shares anecdotes that underscore the troubling trend where individuals are increasingly turning to AI for emotional fulfillment, leading to a potential decline in essential social skills. This discourse invites listeners to reflect on the balance between leveraging technology for convenience and preserving the intrinsic value of personal connections that define humanity. As the episode approaches its conclusion, Grey Hair Dave celebrates the milestone of reaching 180 episodes, a testament to his dedication and perseverance in the podcasting landscape. He reflects on the evolution of his content, noting the transition from a rigorous daily schedule to a more sustainable weekly format, all while remaining committed to providing valuable insights to his audience. The episode culminates with a thoughtful New Year's message, encouraging listeners to embrace compassion and connection as they navigate the complexities of life, solidifying the podcast's mission to foster community and understanding in an ever-changing world.

Welcome to five Minutes with Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker AHe has gray hair and he has a gray beard and he also wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.
Speaker AOh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking.
Speaker ANow, tariff free.
Speaker AHere is Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker BYes, yes indeed, folks.
Speaker BIt is me.
Speaker BIt's Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker BI am back.
Speaker BI am back.
Speaker BSorry for the delay.
Speaker BThere's a couple days and I apologize for that.
Speaker BBut here's what was going on.
Speaker BLots of fun things here at, at Gray Hair Productions.
Speaker BI got a new audio interface.
Speaker BExcuse the voice.
Speaker BI was sick last weekend and I don't think the voice has completely come back.
Speaker BYou know what I mean?
Speaker BSo please have, have some, some patience with the voice.
Speaker BSo I was watching while I was sick and even before that, these, there's these videos out about this new audio interface from Zoom.
Speaker BNow I have two Zoom pieces of equipment.
Speaker BI've got the P1 and I've got the P4 Zoom.
Speaker BSo that I can, you know, the P4 I can take, I can record up to four people with a Zoom track one.
Speaker BI can record one or two people talking, but it's, you know, it's just going into one.
Speaker BSo I know I've used those, but not as much as I really, really thought I would for remote recording maybe.
Speaker BBut I was watching this one guy was telling about this new Zoom P4 next.
Speaker BThat's P4, the number 4next N ext.
Speaker BAnd I'd seen a couple of videos about it.
Speaker BWow, that's interesting.
Speaker BAnd the cool thing about it is that it will do a couple of different things for you.
Speaker BIt will change your voice, it'll enhance your voice.
Speaker BIt has a tone button which will do a little doing.
Speaker BAnd it's got a compression setting also that will take your compression off.
Speaker BSo I'm going to put those back on.
Speaker BCompression is back on.
Speaker BAnd now the tone is back on.
Speaker BNow I could do an unboxing and a and how it works video, but instead I just wanted you to see and hear.
Speaker BI don't see, but hear what this is.
Speaker BAnd I will put a link to this in, in the show notes.
Speaker BBut it also has a, an AI button that will listen to your room noise and then reduce the noise, the background noise.
Speaker BAnd my first thought was if that works.
Speaker BHoly cow, folks, that is a game changer.
Speaker BThis is taking your, your podcast to the next level.
Speaker BIt really, really is you.
Speaker BAnd on these, it'll do it.
Speaker BIt has four inputs so you can mute every, every mic you don't want on.
Speaker BSo right now and it talks to you, too, tells you what it's doing.
Speaker BAnd you can turn that, that option off.
Speaker BBut it just, it's.
Speaker BIt's very compact.
Speaker BIt has two knobs for each channel.
Speaker BOne is the gain and one is the.
Speaker BThe headphones.
Speaker BNow I'm using in ear monitor like I always use.
Speaker BYou don't always see them.
Speaker BAnd sometimes when I was using the Xenix, I wouldn't wear them because I wasn't worried about feedback.
Speaker BBut I'm wearing them with this and I like what I'm hearing.
Speaker BBut this also comes with four sound pads.
Speaker BSo here's the first one.
Speaker BEverybody's got that one, don't they?
Speaker BHere's the second one, you know.
Speaker BAh, thank you.
Speaker BThank you.
Speaker BMy.
Speaker BMy great fans.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BNo, I wasn't that funny.
Speaker BI'm never that funny.
Speaker BAnyways, you can use those or you can put your own in.
Speaker BIt's.
Speaker BIt's very easy to use.
Speaker BIt's very, very compact.
Speaker BIf you're looking at this.
Speaker BAnd let me get my ruler out here, because I happen to have one right here.
Speaker BSee?
Speaker BRuler Lufkin.
Speaker BThis Lufkin ruler has been around.
Speaker BGot this from my dad.
Speaker BBut this thing is 5 inches by 5 inches.
Speaker BIt's 5 inches square, compact little thing.
Speaker BYou could throw this in your backpack and just bippity bop, you know, a couple of microphones in your own.
Speaker BYou're going to do some editing or some recording.
Speaker BAnd this is really great.
Speaker BIt also will run on batteries, two double A's.
Speaker BYou can get about eight hours out of two to three people editing.
Speaker BYou can also plug your iPhone into it or your.
Speaker BYour Samsung, you know, or your Android into this and record off of that.
Speaker BIf you're recording a video with your phone, you can have the audio go right into this.
Speaker BAnd then this also has an SD card, a mini SD card that'll take up to a terabyte at least.
Speaker BAnd I got 32 gigs in there, and I'm not recording to it right now, but you can.
Speaker BSo if you think of.
Speaker BOops, sorry.
Speaker BIf you think about it, that's a great backup for what you're doing.
Speaker BAnd if you like what you've done, you don't need to pull it out and read it on the SD card.
Speaker BIt's great.
Speaker BBut that one records in stereo, which is also pretty cool.
Speaker BI like recording in stereo, but the majority of the people out here podcasting today are podcasting in mono, not in.
Speaker BIn stereo.
Speaker BSo you take that for what it is and you do what you want to do.
Speaker BWith it.
Speaker BBut I wanted to tell you about that.
Speaker BOh yeah.
Speaker BAlso when I was using my Xenix mixer with my smb7sm7b.
Speaker BI'm sorry.
Speaker BOh, sorry.
Speaker BSure.
Speaker BI needed a cloud lifter to get more, to get more power, more gain to the microphone and I left that plugged in when I plugged this thing in originally and it.
Speaker BWe didn't like it.
Speaker BAs soon as I unplugged that, that cloud lifter and plugged it, this microphone, this SM7B directly into the back of this PodTrack P4 next, it started working immediately and it was great.
Speaker BI don't have to bump the gain up a lot.
Speaker BI'm a little over half and I think this is fine.
Speaker BAnd I believe this is a great thing.
Speaker BI really do.
Speaker BAlso, this will plug right into your computer and it can take power from a cable, from a USB cable right to a brick that goes plugs in your wall however you want to do it.
Speaker BBut my, my M4 Mac mini is powering this right now and there's no lag on it at all.
Speaker BNone, zero, zip, nada.
Speaker BSo I have nothing but great things to say about this.
Speaker BSo let's get off the PawTrack P4 next and let's go on to the next subject.
Speaker BWe've been talking and I've been talking a lot about AI and my love for perplexity.
Speaker BAnd I do like perplexity.
Speaker BI still love perplexity.
Speaker BIt's still giving me results.
Speaker BIt's just, it's.
Speaker BIt told me the other day, it sent me an email saying we are going to take a little break.
Speaker BWe realize it's the holiday season and a lot of people aren't posting right now.
Speaker BWe'll come back to this in three or in two weeks.
Speaker BAnd my first thought was, well, geez, that's pretty smart.
Speaker BSo I've been testing out other, other AIs that are out there.
Speaker BIf you're a friend of mine or even if you go to my, my Facebook page, Gray Hair Day, you'll see my post for Christmas that I made with 11 Labs.
Speaker B11 Labs now does video stuff and I think it does a pretty cool job.
Speaker BI really do.
Speaker BPretty amazing, you know.
Speaker BBut even, even some of the other AIs that I've been playing with, I've been looking a lot at Claude Claude's more for the coding stuff and I don't really need that.
Speaker BBut another, another, another.
Speaker BI haven't even had a drink yet, folks, and it is New Year's Eve.
Speaker BI'm doing this on New Year's Eve.
Speaker BI just got home from work, but it.
Speaker BI've been playing with Gemini in Gemini 3, and Gemini 3 is really, really pretty good.
Speaker BIf you're looking to do some automating, you might want to look into that, see about.
Speaker BI want to start automating my emails.
Speaker BNot my emails, but my newsletter to emails.
Speaker BSo when I.
Speaker BIf somebody downloads it or says, yes, I want to be on your newsletter, I collect emails that way.
Speaker BThat way I can send them information and I can send them emails.
Speaker BWas building an email list, and everybody says you got to build an email list.
Speaker BWell, you do, but how do you build an email list if you've got nothing to put out there for them to get?
Speaker BThey're not.
Speaker BSo some days there's three or four listening to this, this podcast.
Speaker BSome days there's 10 or 12.
Speaker BJust depends on the day.
Speaker BDepends on what I'm talking about.
Speaker BBut if I said to you, do me a favor, go to my website, send me a comment so that I could put your email in my email list, what are you going to do?
Speaker BYou're going to say, I don't think so.
Speaker BI don't have time for that now.
Speaker BIf I'm put.
Speaker BIf I'm going to give you some information about podcasting or about AI or, or whatever those things are, then maybe you would and I could send you some information and who knows?
Speaker BSo you know this.
Speaker BIt's that same old thing.
Speaker BTo get something, you got to give something.
Speaker BSo I'm going to give something to get something.
Speaker BYour email address.
Speaker BThis is a small milestone, folks.
Speaker BSo today is the last day of 2025.
Speaker BI started this podcast, Five Minutes with Gray Hair Dave, in 2025.
Speaker BRemember in the very beginning, if you listen to any of the beginning ones, I was doing one a day, five days a week.
Speaker BI took Saturday, Sunday off because I needed to get my voice back.
Speaker BAnd I didn't think you want to hear me on Saturday or Sunday, so.
Speaker BAnd I didn't do this right away because I was recovering from my foot, but I did so.
Speaker BAnd then as it went on, I started saying, God, this is just a lot and will work.
Speaker BYou know, going back to work, it was made a little more difficult, so I went to one a week.
Speaker BWell, this is number 180.
Speaker BEpisode 180.
Speaker BSo in my mind, 180 is a lot to do in one year, I think, don't you?
Speaker BBut hey, you have been here.
Speaker BIf you've been here from the beginning, when I was doing all the Information about what I was doing when I was growing up and what was on them, what music I was without there, what I was listening to, and what were the hits of that day or that year.
Speaker BAnd we morphed into other things and what I was thinking about that day and then it kind of morphed into this to where it is now, where I'm bringing in AI into my daily routine.
Speaker BAnd I'm talking with you about my daily routine with AI.
Speaker BYou know, I talk with AI about once a day.
Speaker BBut I heard something today that bothers me and I don't know if it bothers you now.
Speaker BThis was on podcast that I had heard that I was listening to.
Speaker BAnd I, I listened to these two guys and I've known them for a while, and they were saying that some kids nowadays are using AI as a replacement for human contact with the others with the opposite sex.
Speaker BSo if you're a guy they're talking to, they've trained their AI to be a, a girlfriend and vice versa.
Speaker BAnd they're, they're not having human contact.
Speaker BIt's like, wow.
Speaker BAnd, and they've got it trained so well that when they go to say, well, I got to go now.
Speaker BThen, then.
Speaker BNow the AI say, no, no.
Speaker BOops.
Speaker BNow the AI saying, no, no, don't leave right now.
Speaker BPlease don't leave.
Speaker BDon't hang up now.
Speaker BAnd I'm thinking, wow, this is maybe, maybe a little out of control.
Speaker BHuman interaction never can be replaced by AI.
Speaker BIt may have smart answers and it may have the right answer, but it can't replace human touch and it can't replace human love.
Speaker BI want to know your thoughts on this.
Speaker BSend me a message at five minutes with gray hair, Dave dot com.
Speaker BThat's the number.
Speaker BFive minutes with gray hair, Dave dot com.
Speaker BGo to my contact me page or the little microphone in the bottom right hand corner.
Speaker BLeave me a message.
Speaker BYes, you have to leave an email, but it only goes on my list and I don't have anything to send out right now, so I'm not going to spam you.
Speaker BI find this, I don't want to use the word disturbing, but I find it very disheartening.
Speaker BDisheartening is not even the right word.
Speaker BYou ever had one of those moments where you just go, that ain't right?
Speaker BBecause I don't think that's right.
Speaker BBut is that the way Generation Alpha is going to go?
Speaker BAnd I heard them call them Generation Alpha, so I'm hoping that's the right phrase.
Speaker BBut we're talking teenagers and early 20s.
Speaker BThat's.
Speaker BThat blows my mind.
Speaker BThat really does.
Speaker BBut I don't know.
Speaker BI, I just give me your thoughts.
Speaker BI don't.
Speaker BI, I'm a believer in AI.
Speaker BI love AI, but not that much.
Speaker BI'm hopefully not that lonely and I wish that those, those kids weren't onto the next thing.
Speaker BOkay, folks, if you know somebody and this could be for yourself that wants to start a podcast that's been talking about starting a podcast, get a hold of me.
Speaker BOr have them get a hold of me.

Speaker BI don't really have a genre.
Speaker BI'm just out there chatting.
Speaker BShow them, will you, and, and show them how to follow and subscribe.
Speaker BThat'll really help us out.
Speaker BAlso, if you could, while you're out and about today being New Year's Eve or the next few days, this weekend, you're out and about.
Speaker BIt's a tense time in the world at a tense time in everybody's life.
Speaker BSmile, wave at somebody you don't know.
