The Intersection of Faith and Community: A Candid Discussion

The Intersection of Faith and Community: A Candid Discussion

The recent untimely demise of Pope Francis serves as the focal point of our discourse in this episode, prompting a reflection on the profound impact and responsibilities associated with the papacy. I express my admiration for the Pope's role and the significant service he provided to the Catholic Church, acknowledging the immense pressure that accompanies such a position. The episode also delves into the solemnity surrounding the funeral proceedings and the subsequent conclave, during which cardinals convene to elect the next pontiff. Transitioning from this somber topic, we explore the vibrant happenings in Florida, particularly the excitement surrounding the impending opening of Universal Studios' new attractions. As we navigate these diverse subjects, we invite our audience to engage with us and reflect on the intersection of tradition and contemporary life.

The latest episode of our podcast delves into a myriad of topics that resonate deeply with the complexities of contemporary life. The discussion commences with an acknowledgment of the recent passing of Pope Francis, a moment that reverberates across the cultural and spiritual landscape. The speaker, while not a Catholic, articulates a profound respect for the office of the Pope and reflects on the weight of responsibility borne by those who ascend to such a position. This contemplation of mortality and duty serves as a poignant reminder of the temporal nature of leadership roles within significant institutions. Furthermore, the speaker muses on the intricacies of the papal conclave, where cardinals gather to elect a successor, emphasizing the deliberative nature of such an important decision, which can extend over several days. Speaker A

Well, well, well.

Speaker A

Welcome back, folks.

Speaker A

Yes, indeed.

Speaker A

Welcome back to another fine episode of five Minutes with Gray Hair Day.

Speaker A

Yep, the.

Speaker A

The intro from 11 Labs again did the fine job.

Speaker A

I've been playing with it a little bit today, and I wanted to try something a little bit different.

Speaker A

So I hope you like that one.

Speaker A

I hope you're all doing well.

Speaker A

It's been a great week here in Florida, or especially where I am.

Speaker A

Weather's been in the 80s, almost 90.

Speaker A

No rain.

Speaker A

Of course, we've got a little bit of a drought going on here in Florida, but that's not too bad.

Speaker A

I'm.

Speaker A

I love this type of weather.

Speaker A

Now, I talked to my brother the other day, and he don't like my kind of weather.

Speaker A

He likes the Michigan weather.

Speaker A

And I would assume my other brother does too, because he stays.

Speaker A

But they hate.

Speaker A

They may hate it at times, but they love living where they're at.

Speaker A

And there's nothing wrong with that, is there?

Speaker A

I love living where I'm at.

Speaker A

Not a lot going on here in.

Speaker A

In Gray Hair production land.

Speaker A

Just, you know, I went out to dinner the other night with a couple of great friends who bought me birthday dinner, which was fantastic.

Speaker A

Was nice to celebrate with friends.

Speaker A

I'm not big on celebrating.

Speaker A

I'm not big on receiving gifts or.

Speaker A

Or those type of things.

Speaker A

I'm more of a person who likes to give when I can, and I.

Speaker A

I accept it a little bit better than I used to.

Speaker A

But, you know, it's one of those things where if it's not what you're used to, it's not what you're used to.

Speaker A

So we had a nice evening.

Speaker A

I came home and.

Speaker A

And we had a nice evening here.

Speaker A

And then.

Speaker A

And then the next day, you know, back to life.

Speaker A

So I just wanted to let you know about that.

Speaker A

I wanted to also talk today a little bit about.

Speaker A

Because we're going to change subjects now.

Speaker A

I want to talk about what.

Speaker A

What's happening soon around us, around me, around you, maybe.

Speaker A

We've got the unfortunate, untimely death of Pope Francis.

Speaker A

That.

Speaker A

That shocked me.

Speaker A

And if I'm not mistaken, he died on my birthday or the day before.

Speaker A

Let's see.

Speaker A

But it.

Speaker A

I'm not Catholic and I'm an Episcopalian.

Speaker A

I'm a.

Speaker A

Whatever Catholic light.

Speaker A

My brother calls it Catholic light.

Speaker A

I love that.

Speaker A

But I do and always have respected.

Speaker A

Respect or respected the Pope.

Speaker A

And I like listening to them.

Speaker A

Granted, most times it had to be translated.

Speaker A

But these guys, these.

Speaker A

These fine men who become the Pope, these.

Speaker A

These great men of God who are there to guide the Catholic Church and their congregation do a huge service.

Speaker A

And they're always there.

Speaker A

They're always on, as it were.

Speaker A

And that takes a lot.

Speaker A

It's like being president forever, you know, or until you die.

Speaker A

And it's sad because they always end up passing away while in service.

Speaker A

It seems like they don't have time, and maybe they don't want to.

Speaker A

To enjoy any form of retirement now.

Speaker A

Maybe there have been some who have, and I don't know because I don't pay as much attention as I should.

Speaker A

But, you know, I think that they deserve a little.

Speaker A

Little restroom relaxation, too.

Speaker A

It's got to be a.

Speaker A

It's got to be a.

Speaker A

I was going to say burden, and I.

Speaker A

I wanted to.

Speaker A

I don't want to put that out there.

Speaker A

I don't think that having to be the Pope would be a burden.

Speaker A

I think it would be a blessing.

Speaker A

But I also think that it's a lot of work.

Speaker A

Again, this is from a person who's not Catholic.

Speaker A

If I have said something that offends you, you have my utmost apologies.

Speaker A

I mean no disrespect.

Speaker A

I'm very, very in awe of the Pope.

Speaker A

Now, with that being said, it comes time for the.

Speaker A

The burial, which was happening today, because I'm recording on Saturday, or the funeral.

Speaker A

And then they go into the conclave, I think it's called, where they decide the next pope, which is pretty cool.

Speaker A

It is.

Speaker A

And this is the thing that I think is cool.

Speaker A

And some people will say that they think this is not.

Speaker A

This is antiquated.

Speaker A

These guys go into these cardinals or bishops.

Speaker A

I think it's cardinals, anyways.

Speaker A

These guys go into a.

Speaker A

A building and they stay there until they decide who it's going to be.

Speaker A

Could take days.

Speaker A

Doesn't seem to, but it could take days.

Speaker A

And they don't leave until they've made a decision.

Speaker A

And then they.

Speaker A

They send out the smoke that lets the world know the next pope has been chosen.

Speaker A

That, too, has to be an immense amount of pressure on those fine guys.

Speaker A

It really, really does.

Speaker A

You think about it.

Speaker A

Choose the next.

Speaker A

It's just these guys.

Speaker A

And this isn't about politics.

Speaker A

This is about reality, about life, about everything.

Speaker A

So, you know, good luck to those folks.

Speaker A

Let's move on to the next subject that's maybe, hopefully, hopefully a little cheerier.

Speaker A

In other world news, there's been a lot going on, but there hasn't.

Speaker A

There's.

Speaker A

I mean, it's.

Speaker A

The world is going a little wacko, but it's.

Speaker A

It's Always going a little wacko, isn't it?

Speaker A

I look at life around here and of course the world is revolving around Universal Studios and Disney World right now and Universal's epic, epic universe getting ready to open.

Speaker A

And that in itself is cool.

Speaker A

So now I hear it's got four four lands and it's going to be a lot of fun.

Speaker A

I understand.

Speaker A

I don't know.

Speaker A

I.

Speaker A

You know, folks, I've lived in Florida for going on, well, being 19 years next year.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Wow.

Speaker A

19 years.

Speaker A

19 years in May I moved down here.

Speaker A

Wow, that's a long time.

Speaker A

But anyways, in all that time, I have never been in Universal Park.

Speaker A

They have an area a lot like Disney does with their Disney Springs.

Speaker A

They have an area called CityWalk.

Speaker A

Now I've been there numerous times, probably not in the last 10 years, but I just, I'm not a roller coaster person anymore, folks.

Speaker A

I'm just not.

Speaker A

I, I'm in my 60s now.

Speaker A

I'm not.

Speaker A

Not big on roller coasters.

Speaker A

Okay?

Speaker A

But I hear it's going to be great for those people who do roller coasters and all these other things.

Speaker A

It's exciting times.

Speaker A

And I think it opens up next month.

Speaker A

Gonna be fun to watch.

Speaker A

So now it's Disney does something, Universal does something.

Speaker A

So now it'll be time for Disney to do something.

Speaker A

Disney's already got the plans and they're already starting to do things.

Speaker A

So it's this constant back and forth between those two.

Speaker A

And then you've got little SeaWorld there.

Speaker A

And don't get me wrong, SeaWorld's not little.

Speaker A

I used to have a annual pass to Sea World and I, I miss it.

Speaker A

I miss not having it.

Speaker A

That is a.

Speaker A

It's a park that has coasters.

Speaker A

It's got sea animals and sea life and the greatest aquariums in the world.

Speaker A

And for me, it's a relaxing park.

Speaker A

I can go there, walk around, see a show, see a dolphin show, see a whale show, go see the penguins, all those fun things.

Speaker A

And then, you know, if I wanted to go ride a coaster, I could.

Speaker A

They also have concert series.

Speaker A

They all have concert series going on.

Speaker A

So it's.

Speaker A

I actually enjoy that part much more because it is more laid back.

Speaker A

And that's what I want in life is a more laid back experience where I can go and I can enjoy myself without being inundated with just roller coaster, roller coaster, roller coaster, roller coaster, ride, ride, ride, ride, ride.

Speaker A

You know what I'm saying?

Speaker A

And I'm sure that that's part of partly my age, but.

Speaker A

And I'M sure somewhere you're going to say, oh, Dave, you're just acting old.

Speaker A

Maybe, maybe I am.

Speaker A

But I know what I enjoy now and that's what I'm going to be doing.

Speaker A

So that's what that is.

Speaker A

That's.

Speaker A

That's the life going on here down in Florida.
