The Intersection of Audio and Visual: Podcasting Reimagined

The Intersection of Audio and Visual: Podcasting Reimagined

The focal point of today's discourse revolves around the integration of video into the podcasting realm, a topic of considerable relevance and debate. I have recently embarked on an earnest exploration of video content, recognizing its potential to enhance the auditory experience of podcasts. I am currently undertaking online courses aimed at refining my video editing skills, which I deem essential for the evolution of my podcasts, particularly those targeted at the Boomer demographic. Through this episode, I articulate the notion that if one records both audio and video simultaneously, the resultant audio should indeed be classified as a podcast, thus contributing to the ongoing discourse regarding the definition of podcasting. Furthermore, I invite listeners to share their perspectives on this subject and provide insights into their own podcasting experiences.

Engaging in a discourse on the evolving landscape of podcasting, Gray Hair Dave articulates his reflections on the integration of video into the auditory medium. He elucidates his recent endeavors in enhancing his video production skills, underscoring the significance of competent video editing in augmenting the appeal and reach of his podcast. In his exploration, he posits a thought-provoking hypothesis regarding the nature of podcasts, suggesting that any audio output derived from a video recording that retains the essence of the original content ought to be classified as a podcast. This perspective invites listeners to consider the multifaceted dimensions of podcasting, especially in an era where visual content is increasingly prevalent. Furthermore, Dave examines the various technological tools available for podcasters, providing insights into software such as Descript, Ecamm Live, and Zencaster, which facilitate seamless audio and video recording. His practical advice encourages aspiring podcasters to embrace these innovations, thereby enhancing their creative expressions and broadening their audience engagement strategies.

Takeaways:

  • In this episode, I discuss the increasing significance of video in podcasting, emphasizing its pivotal role in future content creation.
  • I elaborate on the necessity of utilizing advanced video editing tools to enhance the overall quality of podcast presentations.
  • Throughout the discussion, I advocate for the inclusion of both audio and video formats in podcasting to maximize audience engagement and accessibility.
  • I reflect upon my personal experiences with various podcasting platforms, sharing insights into their functionalities and my preferences for seamless content production.
  • The episode underscores a vital call for audience interaction, inviting listeners to share their podcasting experiences and preferences for further discussion.
  • I conclude with a reminder of the importance of community engagement, encouraging listeners to connect with me and share their thoughts on the evolving landscape of podcasting.

Speaker A

Welcome to five Minutes with Gray Hair Dave.

Speaker A

He has gray hair.

Speaker A

He has a gray beard.

Speaker A

He wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.

Speaker A

Oh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking.

Speaker A

Now here is Gray Hair Dave.

Speaker A

Welcome back.

Speaker A

Vote to 5 minutes of Gray Hair Dave.

Speaker A

Yeah, that's it.

Speaker A

You heard it right there on the intro.

Speaker A

Gray Hair Dave here.

Speaker A

I'm back.

Speaker A

Glad you're here.

Speaker A

You know, I keep asking, nobody responds.

Speaker A

Do you like the intros from 11 labs IO?

Speaker A

I really do.

Speaker A

I think they're fantastic.

Speaker A

But you know, if you don't like them, why don't you let me know at five minutes with gray haired Dave.

Speaker A

Calm.

Speaker A

That's the number.

Speaker A

Five minutes with gray hair dave.com how are you?

Speaker A

I hope you're doing well.

Speaker A

I have been in the past few weeks playing around a lot with video and I know I've talked about video, but I got, I'm getting more serious about it.

Speaker A

Taking a couple of online courses on how to edit video better because I feel that's going to be important to what I want to do with my videos.

Speaker A

The majority of the of the videos are going to go towards Boomer podcast.

Speaker A

But I'm thinking about, you know, and I've talked about it before, I want to make this podcast video also because there's this big debate in podcasting and I haven't weighed in on whether video is a podcast or not.

Speaker A

If in my.

Speaker A

And here's kind of what I where I'm at.

Speaker A

If you're recording your video and the video is the same as the audio, when you put just audio out, it should be considered a podcast.

Speaker A

That's just my way of thinking because that's what you're doing.

Speaker A

You're recording your podcast both ways.

Speaker A

It can be done.

Speaker A

It's very, very simple.

Speaker A

If you're on an Apple, you, you, you can record through descript.com or ecamm live.com loom iMovie if you're on an a Windows machine, there's programs out there for that.

Speaker A

And I mean you can get again, you can get the script, you can get loom or you can go ahead and this is on Apple as well as Windows.

Speaker A

This is a great way to do it.

Speaker A

If you're thinking about it.

Speaker A

You can go to some of the programs out there like Riverside FM, you can go over to SquadCast FM and there's another one.

Speaker A

It is a.

Speaker A

It's just, it's left my mind.

Speaker A

Zandler, I want to say it is.

Speaker A

No, no, not Zander.

Speaker A

I apologize.

Speaker A

Zencaster and what it does is it records the audio and video for you.

Speaker A

And that can be of just you, or if you have a guest, can be you and a guest, which records in two separate studios.

Speaker A

If they're sitting right next to you, great.

Speaker A

And they're on their own laptop, great.

Speaker A

If not, you've got to have two cameras.

Speaker A

But if they're, if they're remote, this works fantastically.

Speaker A

I did this with my brother tim.

Speaker A

We did 100 episodes of a podcast called Poetry of Christian Faith.

Speaker A

And out of those 100, I believe I posted the videos of about 90.

Speaker A

About 90 of them, and it was really great.

Speaker A

We, I recorded through Riverside, and, you know, every once in a while, I'd have a hiccup, and I'd contact them, and boom, they'd have it fixed within the next day, which is usually not an issue.

Speaker A

That podcast was also called Living in God's Rhyme.

Speaker A

We changed names about three quarters of the way through because we weren't getting the traffic we were wanting.

Speaker A

So that's something you got to think about if you want to be a podcaster.

Speaker A

Do you want video as well as audio?

Speaker A

And my theory is video is here.

Speaker A

Really.

Speaker A

I don't think it's going anywhere.

Speaker A

So why is.

Speaker A

Why not get used to it, right?

Speaker A

And, and the cool thing about podcasts are you don't want video of your podcast.

Speaker A

You don't have to have it.

Speaker A

There's nothing says you do.

Speaker A

If it's an RSS feed, it's, It's, It's a podcast.

Speaker A

But podcasts go through RSS feeds, okay?

Speaker A

And those are created by your hosts, unless you're one of those smart ones who can do that.

Speaker A

And if you are, oh, lucky you.

Speaker A

But I, I, I go through a host to create my rss because I don't know how they do.

Speaker A

And they store all my podcasts, and I never have to store them.

Speaker A

They distribute them.

Speaker A

And now with AI, they help me with names, they help me with show notes, transcript, everything.

Speaker A

The links to the things that I've just told you about, they'll be in a.

Speaker A

They'll be at the end of the show notes.

Speaker A

So if you're looking for links to those, they'll be there at the bottom of the show notes.

Speaker A

And that's one of the fabulous things about AI.

Speaker A

And I've also been learning a lot about AI.

Speaker A

I've gone through the chat GPT course.

Speaker A

I've gone through a Dali core.

Speaker A

I'm going through Jasper right now.

Speaker A

I've gone through Claude.

Speaker A

Claude.

Speaker A

Wow.

Speaker A

I I was amazed.

Speaker A

The other day I went to Claude and I typed in, hey, I want to get a.

Speaker A

I want you to create for me a post for social media that I can put out that will help drive traffic to my website, gray hair productions.com, because that's my business.

Speaker A

Gray hair productions.com and I sat there in awe as it coded it and then came up with this really great quick landing page that would send guests to my website.

Speaker A

Was great coloring, it was great wording, you know.

Speaker A

Yeah, I had to change a couple of things, and because it was a test for me, I saved it.

Speaker A

But I sent it to a few people to see what they thought.

Speaker A

And these are people that I trust and post a lot, and they thought that was pretty darn impressive, especially some of those who are big believers in using AI yet.

Speaker A

But there's one person that I sent it to who was always afraid of technology.

Speaker A

And I don't want to use the word afraid.

Speaker A

I'm sorry that she was reluctant because it always seemed like every time she'd find something she liked, it would break or something would go wrong and she'd have to call me or a tech to find out how to fix it and spend hours trying to fix it.

Speaker A

And it's just was frustrating for them.

Speaker A

And I understand that.

Speaker A

I do.

Speaker A

I don't have those issues, but I'm blessed that way.

Speaker A

I just feel blessed that I have that issue.

Speaker A

I don't have that issue, but don't be afraid to look at it.

Speaker A

And if you're listening to me, I want to know.

Speaker A

And this is really important, folks, and I want you to listen.

Speaker A

If you already have a podcast and you're listening to me, I want to know what that podcast is.

Speaker A

I want to listen to it.

Speaker A

I want to hear your opinions and your views or whatever it is you're talking about, I want to know what it is.

Speaker A

So go five minutes with greyhairdave.com and you can type that in either way, the number 5 or the letter 5 minutes of greyhairdave.com you can go to the Contact Me page, which will send me an email, or you can go to the little microphone in the bottom of the right hand corner.

Speaker A

Click on that.

Speaker A

Leave me your email address and leave me a voicemail.

Speaker A

If you do leave me a voicemail, folks, and you don't speak English, please go to the Contact Me page, because I don't speak any other languages but English.

Speaker A

I'm sure I could translate it, though, if I had to, so it doesn't really matter.

Speaker A

Does it?

Speaker A

Yeah, we could go either way.

Speaker A

Give me your.

Speaker A

Give me your native language.

Speaker A

That'd be cool, too.

Speaker A

I could.

Speaker A

Then I can work on translating it.

Speaker A

That'd be fun.

Speaker A

But let me know what your podcast is.

Speaker A

Let me know if you're doing audio or audio and video or just video.

Speaker A

I'm really curious.

Speaker A

I'm going to take a little, a little cross section and see what we got.

Speaker A

Like a, kind of like a.

Speaker A

I don't know, there's a word for it.

Speaker A

Duh.

Speaker A

A pole.

Speaker A

There it is.

Speaker A

I'm going to take a pole on what's going on out there.

Speaker A

So please, please do, do this for me.

Speaker A

I, I would appreciate it so, so much.

Speaker A

If you have a podcast, if you're thinking about a podcast and you haven't started one yet, go to boomerpodcast.com.

Speaker A

i got some.

Speaker A

I got six episodes out there and I'm working on number seven right now because that's going to be video and audio.

Speaker A

But go to the website, say, hey, I'm interested in trying this.

Speaker A

I want to know what to do.

Speaker A

Can you help me?

Speaker A

Or if you don't need any help, you want me to critique what you've done, or let's just listen to what you've done, see if I got any suggestions.

Speaker A

I'd be happy to do that for you.

Speaker A

And that's @gray hair productions.com.

Speaker A

now, there's a gray hair thing going on around here.

Speaker A

Gray hair day, Gray Hair Productions.

Speaker A

You get all that all kind of loops in together there, doesn't it?

Speaker A

I think it's fun.

Speaker A

So that's what's going on here.

Speaker A

I see what's going on in the world, folks, and I know that you might want to talk about it, and if you do, I'd be happy to hear about it.

Speaker A

Again, go to the website.

Speaker A

Leave me a message.

Speaker A

We can talk online, chat back and forth, or we can have a conversation about it on this show.

Speaker A

I don't mind having guests as long as I understand this format just goes anywhere I want it to go.

Speaker A

My show, I get to do what I want to do.

Speaker A

But that would be interesting to hear your.

Speaker A

I want to hear your opinions on that.

Speaker A

When it comes to anything else, my foot's doing better.

Speaker A

I had a great week in therapy and then all of a sudden, boy, I tell you what, it's feeling better.

Speaker A

It's feeling a lot better.

Speaker A

I'm happy with my progress right now.

Speaker A

And I'm about time in my mind, about time.

Speaker A

My body said, okay, we can do this you know, it's a pain when your body says, nope, you ain't doing that.

Speaker A

Because as you get older, you remember the things you did when you were younger that you can't do anymore.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

I'm just saying it's.

Speaker A

It ain't no fun, you know?

Speaker A

And there are things that I used to do with ease, I don't even think about anymore.

Speaker A

I wouldn't try.

Speaker A

So that's about all I got for today, folks.

Speaker A

We're about at our regular time here.

Speaker A

Don't forget, if you know somebody who doesn't know what a podcast is, doesn't know where to find one, doesn't know what genres are available, do me a favor, show them where to find it on their phone, on their computers, on their tablets, on their CarPlay, if they've got that.

Speaker A

And use my podcast as the example of how to find things.

Speaker A

Great way to get me out there to more people.

Speaker A

I'd appreciate it if again, if you want to start a podcast, know somebody who does.

Speaker A

Send them to my website, gray hair productions.com and I'd be.

Speaker A

You can send me a message there and contact me page.

Speaker A

Also, folks, if you are out and about today or tomorrow or this week, see somebody you don't know, just smile at them or wave.

Speaker A

You're going to make their day and they're going to make yours.

Speaker A

So on behalf of Gray Hair Dave and all the goofballs up in my head, it's time to say goodbye.

Speaker A

I'll see you next.

Speaker A

See you and talk to you next week.

Speaker A

Yeah, there may be video.

Speaker A

I'm going to.

Speaker A

I'm going to try it next week.

Speaker A

Okay, bye.

Speaker A

Bye.
