The Intersection of Audio and Visual: Podcasting Reimagined

The focal point of today's discourse revolves around the integration of video into the podcasting realm, a topic of considerable relevance and debate. I have recently embarked on an earnest exploration of video content, recognizing its potential to enhance the auditory experience of podcasts. I am currently undertaking online courses aimed at refining my video editing skills, which I deem essential for the evolution of my podcasts, particularly those targeted at the Boomer demographic. Through this episode, I articulate the notion that if one records both audio and video simultaneously, the resultant audio should indeed be classified as a podcast, thus contributing to the ongoing discourse regarding the definition of podcasting. Furthermore, I invite listeners to share their perspectives on this subject and provide insights into their own podcasting experiences.
Engaging in a discourse on the evolving landscape of podcasting, Gray Hair Dave articulates his reflections on the integration of video into the auditory medium. He elucidates his recent endeavors in enhancing his video production skills, underscoring the significance of competent video editing in augmenting the appeal and reach of his podcast. In his exploration, he posits a thought-provoking hypothesis regarding the nature of podcasts, suggesting that any audio output derived from a video recording that retains the essence of the original content ought to be classified as a podcast. This perspective invites listeners to consider the multifaceted dimensions of podcasting, especially in an era where visual content is increasingly prevalent. Furthermore, Dave examines the various technological tools available for podcasters, providing insights into software such as Descript, Ecamm Live, and Zencaster, which facilitate seamless audio and video recording. His practical advice encourages aspiring podcasters to embrace these innovations, thereby enhancing their creative expressions and broadening their audience engagement strategies.

Welcome to five Minutes with Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker AHe has gray hair.
Speaker AHe has a gray beard.
Speaker AHe wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.
Speaker AOh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking.
Speaker ANow here is Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker AWelcome back.
Speaker AVote to 5 minutes of Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker AYeah, that's it.
Speaker AYou heard it right there on the intro.
Speaker AGray Hair Dave here.
Speaker AI'm back.
Speaker AGlad you're here.
Speaker AYou know, I keep asking, nobody responds.
Speaker ADo you like the intros from 11 labs IO?
Speaker AI really do.
Speaker AI think they're fantastic.
Speaker ABut you know, if you don't like them, why don't you let me know at five minutes with gray haired Dave.
Speaker ACalm.
Speaker AThat's the number.
Speaker AFive minutes with gray hair dave.com how are you?
Speaker AI hope you're doing well.
Speaker AI have been in the past few weeks playing around a lot with video and I know I've talked about video, but I got, I'm getting more serious about it.
Speaker ATaking a couple of online courses on how to edit video better because I feel that's going to be important to what I want to do with my videos.
Speaker AThe majority of the of the videos are going to go towards Boomer podcast.
Speaker ABut I'm thinking about, you know, and I've talked about it before, I want to make this podcast video also because there's this big debate in podcasting and I haven't weighed in on whether video is a podcast or not.
Speaker AIf in my.
Speaker AAnd here's kind of what I where I'm at.
Speaker AIf you're recording your video and the video is the same as the audio, when you put just audio out, it should be considered a podcast.
Speaker AThat's just my way of thinking because that's what you're doing.
Speaker AYou're recording your podcast both ways.
Speaker AIt can be done.
Speaker AIt's very, very simple.
Speaker AIf you're on an Apple, you, you, you can record through descript.com or ecamm live.com loom iMovie if you're on an a Windows machine, there's programs out there for that.
Speaker AAnd I mean you can get again, you can get the script, you can get loom or you can go ahead and this is on Apple as well as Windows.
Speaker AThis is a great way to do it.
Speaker AIf you're thinking about it.
Speaker AYou can go to some of the programs out there like Riverside FM, you can go over to SquadCast FM and there's another one.
Speaker AIt is a.
Speaker AIt's just, it's left my mind.
Speaker AZandler, I want to say it is.
Speaker ANo, no, not Zander.
Speaker AI apologize.
Speaker AZencaster and what it does is it records the audio and video for you.
Speaker AAnd that can be of just you, or if you have a guest, can be you and a guest, which records in two separate studios.
Speaker AIf they're sitting right next to you, great.
Speaker AAnd they're on their own laptop, great.
Speaker AIf not, you've got to have two cameras.
Speaker ABut if they're, if they're remote, this works fantastically.
Speaker AI did this with my brother tim.
Speaker AWe did 100 episodes of a podcast called Poetry of Christian Faith.
Speaker AAnd out of those 100, I believe I posted the videos of about 90.
Speaker AAbout 90 of them, and it was really great.
Speaker AWe, I recorded through Riverside, and, you know, every once in a while, I'd have a hiccup, and I'd contact them, and boom, they'd have it fixed within the next day, which is usually not an issue.
Speaker AThat podcast was also called Living in God's Rhyme.
Speaker AWe changed names about three quarters of the way through because we weren't getting the traffic we were wanting.
Speaker ASo that's something you got to think about if you want to be a podcaster.
Speaker ADo you want video as well as audio?
Speaker AAnd my theory is video is here.
Speaker AReally.
Speaker AI don't think it's going anywhere.
Speaker ASo why is.
Speaker AWhy not get used to it, right?
Speaker AAnd, and the cool thing about podcasts are you don't want video of your podcast.
Speaker AYou don't have to have it.
Speaker AThere's nothing says you do.
Speaker AIf it's an RSS feed, it's, It's, It's a podcast.
Speaker ABut podcasts go through RSS feeds, okay?
Speaker AAnd those are created by your hosts, unless you're one of those smart ones who can do that.
Speaker AAnd if you are, oh, lucky you.
Speaker ABut I, I, I go through a host to create my rss because I don't know how they do.
Speaker AAnd they store all my podcasts, and I never have to store them.
Speaker AThey distribute them.
Speaker AAnd now with AI, they help me with names, they help me with show notes, transcript, everything.
Speaker AThe links to the things that I've just told you about, they'll be in a.
Speaker AThey'll be at the end of the show notes.
Speaker ASo if you're looking for links to those, they'll be there at the bottom of the show notes.
Speaker AAnd that's one of the fabulous things about AI.
Speaker AAnd I've also been learning a lot about AI.
Speaker AI've gone through the chat GPT course.
Speaker AI've gone through a Dali core.
Speaker AI'm going through Jasper right now.
Speaker AI've gone through Claude.
Speaker AClaude.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AI I was amazed.
Speaker AThe other day I went to Claude and I typed in, hey, I want to get a.
Speaker AI want you to create for me a post for social media that I can put out that will help drive traffic to my website, gray hair productions.com, because that's my business.
Speaker AGray hair productions.com and I sat there in awe as it coded it and then came up with this really great quick landing page that would send guests to my website.
Speaker AWas great coloring, it was great wording, you know.
Speaker AYeah, I had to change a couple of things, and because it was a test for me, I saved it.
Speaker ABut I sent it to a few people to see what they thought.
Speaker AAnd these are people that I trust and post a lot, and they thought that was pretty darn impressive, especially some of those who are big believers in using AI yet.
Speaker ABut there's one person that I sent it to who was always afraid of technology.
Speaker AAnd I don't want to use the word afraid.
Speaker AI'm sorry that she was reluctant because it always seemed like every time she'd find something she liked, it would break or something would go wrong and she'd have to call me or a tech to find out how to fix it and spend hours trying to fix it.
Speaker AAnd it's just was frustrating for them.
Speaker AAnd I understand that.
Speaker AI do.
Speaker AI don't have those issues, but I'm blessed that way.
Speaker AI just feel blessed that I have that issue.
Speaker AI don't have that issue, but don't be afraid to look at it.
Speaker AAnd if you're listening to me, I want to know.
Speaker AAnd this is really important, folks, and I want you to listen.
Speaker AIf you already have a podcast and you're listening to me, I want to know what that podcast is.
Speaker AI want to listen to it.
Speaker AI want to hear your opinions and your views or whatever it is you're talking about, I want to know what it is.
Speaker ASo go five minutes with greyhairdave.com and you can type that in either way, the number 5 or the letter 5 minutes of greyhairdave.com you can go to the Contact Me page, which will send me an email, or you can go to the little microphone in the bottom of the right hand corner.
Speaker AClick on that.
Speaker ALeave me your email address and leave me a voicemail.
Speaker AIf you do leave me a voicemail, folks, and you don't speak English, please go to the Contact Me page, because I don't speak any other languages but English.
Speaker AI'm sure I could translate it, though, if I had to, so it doesn't really matter.
Speaker ADoes it?
Speaker AYeah, we could go either way.
Speaker AGive me your.
Speaker AGive me your native language.
Speaker AThat'd be cool, too.
Speaker AI could.
Speaker AThen I can work on translating it.
Speaker AThat'd be fun.
Speaker ABut let me know what your podcast is.
Speaker ALet me know if you're doing audio or audio and video or just video.
Speaker AI'm really curious.
Speaker AI'm going to take a little, a little cross section and see what we got.
Speaker ALike a, kind of like a.
Speaker AI don't know, there's a word for it.
Speaker ADuh.
Speaker AA pole.
Speaker AThere it is.
Speaker AI'm going to take a pole on what's going on out there.
Speaker ASo please, please do, do this for me.
Speaker AI, I would appreciate it so, so much.
Speaker AIf you have a podcast, if you're thinking about a podcast and you haven't started one yet, go to boomerpodcast.com.
Speaker Ai got some.
Speaker AI got six episodes out there and I'm working on number seven right now because that's going to be video and audio.
Speaker ABut go to the website, say, hey, I'm interested in trying this.
Speaker AI want to know what to do.
Speaker ACan you help me?
Speaker AOr if you don't need any help, you want me to critique what you've done, or let's just listen to what you've done, see if I got any suggestions.
Speaker AI'd be happy to do that for you.
Speaker AAnd that's @gray hair productions.com.
Speaker Anow, there's a gray hair thing going on around here.
Speaker AGray hair day, Gray Hair Productions.
Speaker AYou get all that all kind of loops in together there, doesn't it?
Speaker AI think it's fun.
Speaker ASo that's what's going on here.
Speaker AI see what's going on in the world, folks, and I know that you might want to talk about it, and if you do, I'd be happy to hear about it.
Speaker AAgain, go to the website.
Speaker ALeave me a message.
Speaker AWe can talk online, chat back and forth, or we can have a conversation about it on this show.
Speaker AI don't mind having guests as long as I understand this format just goes anywhere I want it to go.
Speaker AMy show, I get to do what I want to do.
Speaker ABut that would be interesting to hear your.
Speaker AI want to hear your opinions on that.
Speaker AWhen it comes to anything else, my foot's doing better.
Speaker AI had a great week in therapy and then all of a sudden, boy, I tell you what, it's feeling better.
Speaker AIt's feeling a lot better.
Speaker AI'm happy with my progress right now.
Speaker AAnd I'm about time in my mind, about time.
Speaker AMy body said, okay, we can do this you know, it's a pain when your body says, nope, you ain't doing that.
Speaker ABecause as you get older, you remember the things you did when you were younger that you can't do anymore.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI'm just saying it's.
Speaker AIt ain't no fun, you know?
Speaker AAnd there are things that I used to do with ease, I don't even think about anymore.
Speaker AI wouldn't try.
Speaker ASo that's about all I got for today, folks.
Speaker AWe're about at our regular time here.
Speaker ADon't forget, if you know somebody who doesn't know what a podcast is, doesn't know where to find one, doesn't know what genres are available, do me a favor, show them where to find it on their phone, on their computers, on their tablets, on their CarPlay, if they've got that.
Speaker AAnd use my podcast as the example of how to find things.
Speaker AGreat way to get me out there to more people.
Speaker AI'd appreciate it if again, if you want to start a podcast, know somebody who does.
Speaker ASend them to my website, gray hair productions.com and I'd be.
Speaker AYou can send me a message there and contact me page.
Speaker AAlso, folks, if you are out and about today or tomorrow or this week, see somebody you don't know, just smile at them or wave.
