Harnessing AI for Personal Growth and Motivation

The paramount focus of this episode revolves around the intricacies of motivation and the challenges associated with maintaining it amidst various life demands. I have encountered a notable stagnation in my personal projects, particularly the Grey Hair Dave project, which has prompted a profound reflection on the factors contributing to my diminishing drive. I postulate that this decline in motivation may be attributed to a duality of fear: the fear of success and the absence of external accountability. To combat this inertia, I am contemplating the utilization of artificial intelligence as a potential catalyst for regaining my momentum, thereby allowing me to remain steadfast in my endeavors. Additionally, I discuss the prospect of introducing guests into the podcast, inviting feedback from our audience regarding their interest in such a format, while also highlighting our expanding global listener base. In this installment, Grey Hair Dave embarks on a profound exploration of motivation, articulating his current struggles with project inertia and the psychological factors contributing to his lack of progress. He openly shares his feelings of frustration and confusion regarding the stall in his endeavors, revealing that this situation has been exacerbated by an underlying fear of success. This candid admission serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities surrounding motivation, prompting listeners to reflect on their own experiences with similar challenges. The speaker further emphasizes the importance of accountability in overcoming motivational hurdles, noting the absence of a support system to encourage consistent progress. In an intriguing proposal, Grey Hair Dave suggests leveraging artificial intelligence as a tool to foster his accountability. He illustrates this concept with a practical example, recounting his success with Claude AI, which adeptly generated a detailed spreadsheet of potential clients for his initiative. This narrative not only highlights the potential for technology to assist in personal growth but also encourages listeners to consider how they might integrate similar strategies into their own lives to bolster their motivation and productivity. Additionally, the episode touches upon the evolving nature of the podcast itself, particularly the possibility of incorporating guest appearances. Gray Hair Dave reflects on the increasing global interest in his show and the implications this has for future content direction. He weighs the benefits and challenges associated with inviting guests, all while remaining true to his authentic voice. The discussion serves to engage listeners in a broader dialogue about the nature of podcasting and the importance of adaptability in creative endeavors.

Welcome to five Minutes with Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker AHe has gray hair and he has a gray beard and he also wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.
Speaker AOh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking now, tariff free.
Speaker AHere is Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker BYeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker BThat was 11.
Speaker BLaughs 11 labs.
Speaker BI. Oh, that's spelled with an E, L, E, V, E, N, L, A, B, S, not two ones.
Speaker BLabs.
Speaker BHow are you today, folks?
Speaker BHope you're doing well, Dave.
Speaker BDave took last week off for circumstances that were beyond his control.
Speaker BI apologize.
Speaker BBut I'm back now.
Speaker BHopefully things will stay on track again.
Speaker BLet's see, what are we going to talk about today?
Speaker BWell, there's a couple things on my mind.
Speaker BOne is I mentioned this last time we talked.
Speaker BOne is motivation.
Speaker BWhat motivation means to me isn't working.
Speaker BGray Hair Dave.
Speaker BProject is stalled because I've stalled and I don't know why.
Speaker BI really, I can't tell you why.
Speaker BAnd it bothers, bothers me a lot that I let it sit there and that I only want to work on it when I'm supposed to be at my other job, the one where Mickey Mouse is in charge.
Speaker BI don't know why this is.
Speaker BIf you can explain it to me, please go to my website, five Minutes with Gray Hair Dave and leave me a message.
Speaker BBut anyway, my motivation has.
Speaker BHas waned.
Speaker BAnd I think part of that is.
Speaker BIs twofold again.
Speaker BI think part of it is fear of success and I don't want to be fearful of success.
Speaker BSo I'm recommitting and I'm going to hold myself more accountable and I hope that I can follow through with this.
Speaker BI really, really do.
Speaker BI think the other part of it is there's nobody out there pushing and pushing me is probably not the right way to look at this.
Speaker BBut there's nobody else holding me accountable, saying, have you done this today?
Speaker BDid you do that today?
Speaker BHow is it going with that new thing you are trying, Dave?
Speaker BHave you reached out to anybody yet?
Speaker BI need to find a way and I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to use AI to help me do that.
Speaker BNow you say, how can you make AI help you do that?
Speaker BI don't know, but I am going.
Speaker BHere's what I was thinking.
Speaker BThis last week I was playing around with Claude AI A. Claude AI is more for coding, as far as I can tell.
Speaker BAnd it'll build things because I asked Claude AI to go in and build me something that I already had.
Speaker BI asked it to build me a.
Speaker BA Spreadsheet of potential clients for the new Gray Haired Dave experiment.
Speaker BAnd within about a minute and a half, it produced this very pretty and very, very detailed spreadsheet.
Speaker BIt was, you know, she, it put it in an Excel format, it had the name of the place, it had the email of the place, it had the website, it had a phone number and a contact person when a contact person was available.
Speaker BSo I mean, that was.
Speaker BAnd that, like I said, took about a minute and a half for it to collect everything and then make it.
Speaker BSo what I think I'm going to do is I'm going to try and go to Claude today and ask it to create something to help me stay on track, to help keep me motivated on my days off and even on the days that I work at Disney.
Speaker BSo there's that.
Speaker BSo that's, that's the motivation I was talking about.
Speaker BThere's nobody I live with that can do this for me besides me.
Speaker BI'm not married.
Speaker BI don't have a girlfriend right now.
Speaker BSo, you know, it's kind of hard to say to a friend, hey, keep me motivated.
Speaker BIt's hard to do.
Speaker BSo I'm gonna see if what Claude can do for me, maybe it'll build me an app.
Speaker BI'll let you know next week.
Speaker BI'm gonna start on it here after I'm done editing this.
Speaker BSo next thing I wanted to talk about was guests.
Speaker BNow, I have never had a guest on this, this show, this podcast has always been Dave just talking.
Speaker BYou know, it's, it's Gray Hair Dave just being Dave and doing whatever he wants to do and talking about whatever he wants to talk about.
Speaker BAnd more and more of you are listening, especially across the world, which impresses me all to, to heaven.
Speaker BI mean, it's just, it's phenomenal the amount of people who are downloading the show.
Speaker BNow, some of them may be bots, maybe not, I don't know.
Speaker BBut as of today, I am getting downloads from Australia, India, I'm getting Australia's he downloads from Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, Finland, the uk, Canada, Chile, Argentina.
Speaker BBrazil.
Speaker BAnd let's see, is there anybody else I forgot here?
Speaker BChile.
Speaker BOh, oh, yeah.
Speaker BAnd.
Speaker BAnd Turkish Turkey.
Speaker BT, U, R, K I, Y E. I spelled Turkey.
Speaker BWe would call it Turkey.
Speaker BIt's Turkey.
Speaker BIt's however they say it.
Speaker BBut I'm just saying I'm getting out there about out and around the world.
Speaker BSo I'm happy about that.
Speaker BBut I've never had a guest.
Speaker BNow I've had a few guests.
Speaker BI forgot to Turn my phone to the silent.
Speaker BSorry about that.
Speaker BSo anyways, I've never had a guest.
Speaker BI've had three or four people who have approached me, usually for somebody else.
Speaker BSo I had this.
Speaker BThis guy approached me twice about his.
Speaker BHis client.
Speaker BAnd his client has something to do with podcasting, so at least he knows what it is.
Speaker BSo I tried reaching out to him yesterday to let them know that I'd be interested in talking with them about maybe being a guest.
Speaker BWell, it kept coming back to me as a invalid email when I tried to send them an email, which is how they contacted me through my email.
Speaker BSo if you're going to contact somebody about wanting to be a guest or your client wanting to be a guest on their show, make sure you're giving them or you're sending it from a real email address.
Speaker BNow, I looked this guy up who was one, who this guy was working for and wanted to be on my show supposedly.
Speaker BAnd it's real.
Speaker BI mean, it's interesting.
Speaker BBut, you know, if you're a person that you're having to do this, your publicist, your, you know, your assistant, your va, whatever, have them use a real email address that I could email back to.
Speaker BIt's.
Speaker BOtherwise, it's always going to be a no.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BAnd I don't know if, if having guests on here is something you want, you know what I'm saying?
Speaker BI mean, it would extend the show, which would mean I'd probably have to take an interview, break it up into two or three different podcasts.
Speaker BI'm not sure if that's what that person would like or not.
Speaker BMy show, I get to do it my way, but I also don't want to upset you folks.
Speaker BSo if you'd like to hear from other people, I'd like.
Speaker BI'd like to know, please go ahead, let me know at five minutes with Gray Hair Dave.
Speaker BThat's the number.
Speaker BFive minutes with Gray hairedave dot com.
Speaker BLeave me a message in the contact me page or go to the little voicemail.
Speaker BLeave me a, you know, the little microphone.
Speaker BLeave me a voicemail.
Speaker BI'll be happy to hear from you.
Speaker BAnd if you do say something or leave me a message and you want me to talk about it on air, I will.
Speaker BNow, I say on air.
Speaker BThat's old radio talk, and I apologize for that.
Speaker BBut, you know, basically that's we're on air, we're not live.
Speaker BI've been consider.
Speaker BI've talked about live before, if you remember, and I don't know if I want to go live.
Speaker BYet, but I'm considering it, I really am.
Speaker BSo, just some things to think about there, you know.
Speaker BJust some things to think about.

Speaker BMany, many people are believe today that a podcast has to be video.
Speaker BMyself and many, many other podcasters are here to tell you your podcast does not have to be video.
Speaker BIt can be just audio.
Speaker BIn the beginning, it was mainly audio.
Speaker BPurists believe RSS is only audio.
Speaker BVideo podcasts are what you call YouTube videos.
Speaker BI don't want to get into that.
Speaker BIt's just I'm a believer in audio first, but I also believe in video.
Speaker BNow with these new, new things coming out through Apple, where they're going to start using or promoting and showing video on podcast, if you have one, using a process called hls that could help my business.
Speaker BSo I'm going to be for it.
