Gray Hair Productions: A New Era of Creativity

Gray Hair Productions: A New Era of Creativity

This podcast episode elucidates the progress and developments surrounding the Grey Hair Project, an initiative that I have embarked upon with considerable enthusiasm. The discourse commences with reflections on the utilization of advanced voice generation technologies, specifically 11 Labs, which have significantly enhanced the quality of my voice output. I then transition to discussing the meticulous efforts I have undertaken in creating a comprehensive workbook on podcasting, alongside the design of informative slide decks to further elucidate my project’s objectives. Moreover, I delve into the innovative capabilities of Perplexity AI, which has proven invaluable in organizing and streamlining my conceptual notes. As we traverse various facets of technology and creativity, I remain committed to sharing insights and resources with those interested in the art of podcasting. The discourse presented in this episode encapsulates the multifaceted endeavors of Grey Hair Dave as he embarks upon a new and ambitious project, aptly titled the "Grey Hair Project". Within a span of several weeks, Dave has diligently engaged in the meticulous crafting of a workbook dedicated to the intricacies of podcasting—a task that he remarkably accomplished within the timeframe of a single day. This workbook is intended to serve as a foundational resource for aspiring podcasters, elucidating the essential components necessary for embarking on a podcasting journey. Furthermore, Dave has developed a series of presentation slide decks that complement his workbook, enhancing the learning experience for those who may wish to delve deeper into the realm of audio broadcasting. As the conversation unfolds, Dave reflects on the technological tools he has employed to facilitate his project, particularly singling out Perplexity AI as a valuable asset. He articulates his satisfaction with the efficiency and precision of this AI tool, which has proven instrumental in gathering pertinent data and generating visual materials for his presentations. Dave's methodical approach to harnessing technology is indicative of a broader trend in the podcasting landscape, where the integration of artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly prevalent. By juxtaposing various AI platforms, including ChatGPT and Grok, he provides listeners with a nuanced perspective on the capabilities and limitations of each tool, ultimately advocating for a tailored approach to technology in creative endeavors. In addition to his project updates, Dave addresses the prevailing climate conditions in Central Florida, juxtaposing the beauty of a clear sky with the challenges posed by drought and wildfires. This reflection not only serves to ground the discussion in the present moment but also illustrates the interconnectedness of environmental factors and creative productivity. In a poignant conclusion, Dave encourages listeners to engage with the world around them, fostering connections and sharing kindness, thereby reinforcing the overarching theme of community and support that permeates his narrative. Thus, the episode encapsulates a rich tapestry of personal developments, technological insights, and community-oriented reflections that resonate with a diverse audience seeking inspiration and guidance in their own creative pursuits.

Speaker A

Welcome to five Minutes with Gray Hair Dave.

Speaker A

He has gray hair and he has a gray beard and he also wears glasses like the guy in the artwork.

Speaker A

Oh, and the guy in the artwork is better looking now, tariff free.

Speaker A

Here is Gray Hair Dave.

Speaker B

Well, what did you think of 11 labs this time?

Speaker B

I went in and I changed the parameters of what kind of a voice I wanted and it gave it to me.

Speaker B

I'm pretty happy with it.

Speaker B

I hope you are too.

Speaker B

How are you today?

Speaker B

I hope you're doing well in Central Florida.

Speaker B

It is a gorgeous, gorgeous day.

Speaker B

It's already 77 degrees, hardly any clouds in the skies and of course now we're in a drought.

Speaker B

You know, just can't win sometimes, can you?

Speaker B

But you know, it hasn't rained in quite a while, so.

Speaker B

And there were some, some fires the other day.

Speaker B

Not like you get out in California, but we also have some controlled burns here in Central Florida.

Speaker B

But anyway, how are you?

Speaker B

I hope you're.

Speaker B

Again, like I said, I hope you're doing well.

Speaker B

Gray Hair Dave has been kind of busy since we last talked.

Speaker B

Now, I know we talked about the new project and I'm going to give the project a name until it's launched.

Speaker B

You know how they had the Manhattan Project, they had the Philadelphia Project, all those kinds of things.

Speaker B

We're just going to call this Gray Hair Dave's project or Gray Hair Project.

Speaker B

So Gray Hair Project is rolling right along, folks.

Speaker B

I'm very, very excited for this.

Speaker B

I have written a workbook in the past week that took me a day.

Speaker B

This was on how to podcast.

Speaker B

I have come up with some slide decks for presentations on what I want to do.

Speaker B

I have engaged chat, not chat GPT.

Speaker B

I apologize.

Speaker B

Perplexity AI.

Speaker B

Perplexity AI seems to be my favorite at this.

Speaker B

At this time it is not only able to answer the questions that I pose to has come up with the, the data that I needed.

Speaker B

I had IT pull for me from the web, you know, all the things that I was looking for and I had it and it put it into an Excel or numbers format for me.

Speaker B

Now I use a Mac so of course Mac has numbers instead of Excel and I like it that way.

Speaker B

It also puts helped me with the slide deck design it and we put that into Keynote.

Speaker B

One of the fun things about Keynote Keynote got to learn how to talk.

Speaker B

Dave.

Speaker B

One of the great things about Keynote is you can animate things.

Speaker B

You can do that I'm sure in PowerPoint but I really like the iWorks Products pages is Word Keynote is PowerPoint Numbers is Excel.

Speaker B

And then you've also got.

Speaker B

Oh, goodness, there's one more, I'm sure doesn't matter.

Speaker B

So I'm working a lot on that.

Speaker B

That has really, really consumed a whole bunch of my time.

Speaker B

And the reason that I think this project is a good idea, I've run it through some people that I trust and they've all given me.

Speaker B

Yeah, that's a great idea.

Speaker B

I've.

Speaker B

I've looked online to see if anybody else is out there doing this.

Speaker B

And folks, I can honestly say I really can't find anybody who's going to do what Gray Hair Dave's project is going to be.

Speaker B

You know, Gray Hair Productions is going to go move on to next.

Speaker B

I can't find it anywhere.

Speaker B

Now there is a.

Speaker B

This is going to be a division of Gray Hair Productions.

Speaker B

It's not going to be all of Gray Hair Productions, but it's going to be a major part of Gray Hair Productions in the future.

Speaker B

And my, my plan is to have this re.

Speaker B

Replace my Disney income.

Speaker B

And if Chat GPT and Perplexity, because I run some of these things through Chat GPT too.

Speaker B

I like to compare.

Speaker B

When I'm on AI, I like to compare one AI to another.

Speaker B

Now, Chat GPT is a very generalized, and I don't want to call it generalized, but it's, it's, it's maybe not quite as complex as Perplexity.

Speaker B

And there was other, other ones out there, too.

Speaker B

I went to Claude and tried a couple of things and I also went to Grok.

Speaker B

Now, Grok is the Twitter or the Elon Musk version of AI.

Speaker B

And it gave me pretty much the same things.

Speaker B

It's just a little bit different format.

Speaker B

And I'm happy about that.

Speaker B

I really, I, I am not complaining about any of them and I'm not complaining about Perplexity.

Speaker B

It gave me exactly what I asked it for and did it in such a quick fashion that I was just amazed.

Speaker B

I would come up with an idea and my notes app on my phone and on my iPad.

Speaker B

I've got to go in there tonight or tomorrow and I've got to organize them because they're all over the place.

Speaker B

Do this.

Speaker B

And then all of a sudden I'm over here on this.

Speaker B

And then don't forget to do this.

Speaker B

And over here, don't forget that one now.

Speaker B

Oh, my Lord.

Speaker B

It's just I've got to organize it.

Speaker B

I've got to.

Speaker B

What I may do is I may take all those notes, put them into AI.

Speaker B

What probably Chat GPT ask it to organize it and I want to see what it comes up with.

Speaker B

I'll keep you up to date.

Speaker B

I'll let you know next week what it comes up with because I think that'd be a great idea to, to take all my notes, put them in there and let AI compile them into a, some sort of a order or some sort of cohesive, you know, step by step or you know, the thoughts I've had in a running order.

Speaker B

So.

Speaker B

But then again they've, they've added some AI features in, into a lot of the new Apple products, which is what I wanted to talk to you about next.

Speaker B

So we're changing subjects now in a sense, but I signed up for Creative Studio or Apple's Creative Studio.

Speaker B

And Apple's Creative Studio has, oh my goodness, so many, so many cool things in it.

Speaker B

Apple Creative Studio.

Speaker B

So in it you get Final Cut Pro and it's an updated version with more AI.

Speaker B

You get Logic Pro with updated some, they've updated some AI things in there.

Speaker B

You get pixelmator, which is a lot like if you're familiar with Adobe's Photo Editor, it's like that.

Speaker B

It's got motion for animated effects.

Speaker B

It's got updated keynote with, with updated keynote with AI added.

Speaker B

It's got numbers pages and they've updated Notes as well as freeform.

Speaker B

Now I haven't been using freeform and I should, but I don't know why I haven't been using it, but I just haven't.

Speaker B

I used it for a while and I went away from it and I don't know why.

Speaker B

I think probably should go back to it because maybe it would be easier to organize my notes in there.

Speaker B

But the Notes app is very, very powerful on Apple and I want to use what I'm quicker at and I think that that's very, very important and what I'm trying to do with this new project.

Speaker B

But there's a lot of people out there on YouTube and on TikTok or you know, Instagram, Facebook, as, as well as Twitter giving their opinions about, you know, Apple's creator studio.

Speaker B

And I think part of the reasoning that they're upset about it or giving all their comments is the fact that it's a subscription now.

Speaker B

Okay, it's like $13 a month.

Speaker B

So it's 1299amonth.

Speaker B

After a first three months trial.

Speaker B

I already paid for Logic Pro and that was about 300 bucks and I still have that.

Speaker B

It's still the same program but it's been updated.

Speaker B

Now if I didn't buy the Creative Studio, I might not get as many AI features or new features as I would by getting their prescription.

Speaker B

Prescription.

Speaker B

There you go.

Speaker B

You can tell it's on my mind if I had their subscription, but I didn't, I didn't want to pay 300 bucks for 3 or $400 for final cut Pro.

Speaker B

Now I've told you that I really am a fan of DaVinci DaVinci Resolve.

Speaker B

But because I'm on Apple, I can do all this on my iPad and it works seamlessly and it transfers back and forth the same exact type of file, not a different type of file.

Speaker B

So If I'm on DaVinci on my iPad, I got to download it and then I got a, it's, it's a more of a, more of a hassle to go from one, you know, iPad over to my Mac again.

Speaker B

And God forbid I go and I want to try and use my, my Dell laptop with it.

Speaker B

You know, it's, it makes sense for me.

Speaker B

Now everybody's entitled to their opinion.

Speaker B

Firm believer in that what you decide to do is up to you.

Speaker B

If you're looking for gray hair, Dave's opinion, I like it.

Speaker B

I like what they've done with pixelmator Pro.

Speaker B

I like Motion.

Speaker B

Motion was a paid for app.

Speaker B

I think it was like 50 or 50 or $60.

Speaker B

Pixelmator Pro was not cheap.

Speaker B

So just getting those two alone for this price and you know, if you wanted to, to use this service and you had and you were a student or a teacher and could prove it, like if you had a.org or a.edu address, you can get it for $3 a month but you can pay for it up for the year and you get a couple free months.

Speaker B

It's $129 for the year, so you're paying for 10 and getting two free.

Speaker B

Now I'm going to go with the monthly until I make a little bit of extra money and then I'm just going to pay it off for the year because I like it.

Speaker B

And if I like it, I'm happy.

Speaker B

That's all that matters.

Speaker B

If you don't like it and you're not a fan, good for you.

Speaker B

I'm happy for you too.

Speaker B

You may be out there saying, dave, I'm an Android person and a PC person or I'm a Linux person, great.

Speaker B

We have to have all those other kinds of people who like other kinds of things to make the world go around.

Speaker B

Not everything can be done on a PC.

Speaker B

Not everything can be done on a Mac.

Speaker B

Not everything can be done on a Linux and I'm sure there's another brand out there too.

Speaker B

But you know, one of the things that I, I, I thought about this a while ago about getting a Chromebook, you know, because they're a couple hundred, two, three hundred bucks, you know, just for a couple of things I want to do.

Speaker B

And I realized there's hardly any RAM and there's hardly any hard drive.

Speaker B

I mean a hard drive but storage and it's not good for what I want to do.

Speaker B

So any audio or video I want to do is not going to work very well on one of those.

Speaker B

But if you're a student, that's great.

Speaker B

But that's my opinion on it.

Speaker B

Folks, I know we didn't talk about much else.

Speaker B

I do want to say this.

Speaker B

I saw some, some old friends yesterday, went for lunch.

Speaker B

I went to school, high school with this, this guy and he and his wife and I met for lunch.

Speaker B

I saw them when I was back at Back up north for my sister in law's funeral and they said they were coming down and we had to get together and we sat for a couple of hours and talked and we've still got more to go.

Speaker B

But it was wonderful talking with them.

Speaker B

I had a fantastic afternoon.

Speaker B

I walked away with a huge smile on my face knowing that I reconnected with an old friend.

Speaker B

And I'm happy about that and they're living their best life, so I'm happy for them.

Speaker B

So with that being said, I was going to talk about one more thing and I'm going to make this quick.

Speaker B

If you're thinking about starting a podcast and don't know how to do it, let me know.

Speaker B

Leave me a message on five minutes with gray hair dave.com or go to gray hair productions dot com.

Speaker B

Leave me a message.

Speaker B

I've written a book this week on how to podcast.

Speaker B

I mentioned that a little earlier.

Speaker B

I'd be happy to send that to anyone out there right now in a PDF format.

Speaker B

I haven't printed them yet because I'm not sure how I want to do it.

Speaker B

But if you're interested or know somebody who might be interested in starting a podcast, let me know.

Speaker B

Send me a note.

Speaker B

Send me a note.

Speaker B

Hit at either one of those email addresses, you know, either five minutes with gray hair Dave or gray hair productions.com and let me know and I'll get right back to you as soon as I get the email.

Speaker B

It's very, very in depth, but it's not so in depth that you're going to lose yourself.

Speaker B

You're not going to look at it and go, well, this is frustrating.

Speaker B

I didn't want it to be that way.

Speaker B

I'm still tweaking it because there are a couple of things that I went a little too technical on, and maybe I can back off on that, but it was, it was fun to do.

Speaker B

Also, folks, if you know somebody who doesn't know what a podcast is, doesn't know how to find one, doesn't know how to play one, doesn't know how to listen, grab their phone from their hand, show them, put it back in their hand, and then show them how to find five minutes of Gray Hair Day to give them an idea of how to do it, show them how to follow, to subscribe, show them the different genres that are out there.

Speaker B

You'll help them and you'll give them something to listen to.

Speaker B

And podcasters like me will wholeheartedly appreciate it.

Speaker B

Now also, folks, when you're out and about this week, if you see somebody you don't know, or even somebody you know just as an acquaintance, smile, give them a little wave.

Speaker B

You're going to make their day.

Speaker B

And that'll in turn make your day.

Speaker B

So on behalf of Gray Hair Dave here and Gray Hair Productions, I'm sitting in the studio doing today, doing a whole lot of work.

Speaker B

I wish you a great week and a great weekend, and I will talk to you again next week.

Speaker B

Bye.

Speaker B

Bye.
